The Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC) selected Forgotten Veterans, Invisible Memorials: How American Commemorated the Great War, 1917-1945, as the winner of its 2022 Arline Custer Memorial Prize. MARAC is the premier professional organization for archivists who live and work in the Mid-Atlantic region.
The Arline Custer Memorial Prize “recognizes the best books and articles written or compiled by individuals and institutions in the MARAC region – the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.” According to the evaluation criteria, to be eligible for the prize, “works must be relevant to the general public as well as the archival community. They also should be original and well-researched using available sources. In addition, they should be clearly presented, well-written and organized.”
Being selected by professional archivists for this book award is deeply meaningful. Archivists are the people who make historical research and books possible, and recognition from the archival community is a great honor. Thank you, MARAC, for this award, and thank you to the many archivists who helped along the way.
